Traveling through the frozen waters of the Svalbard fjords is an incredible and often challenging event that brings you deep into the harsh reality of Mother Nature. On this occasion, I traveled across the High Arctic in a Finnish Icebreaker.

Wildlife Abounds
It is not uncommon to find polar bears, seals, walruses, whales, arctic foxes, and reindeer around these frozen fjords. Here, we encountered a walrus and calf sharing the ice on a late afternoon.
A Frozen Ocean
The conditions allowed us to stop the vessel against the sea ice. The ice was found to be approximately 30 centimeters thick, which is more than enough to hold our weight. I was soon standing on top of the Arctic Ocean.
As the weather frequently changed throughout the journey, so did the lighting and the colors of the landscape. The photography met these challenges with incredible results.
